DIT AgTech’s Verra-Certified Methane Reduction Project

For decades, reducing methane emissions from livestock has been a stubborn piece of the climate puzzle. Methane is a greenhouse gas over 25 times more potent than carbon dioxide, and in Australia, livestock production accounts for almost 10% of our national emissions. But methane breaks down in about 20 years, while CO₂ can remain in the atmosphere for over a century. Reducing it is critical but until now, there’s never been a large-scale, independently verified way to measure and reward methane reduction on farms in Australia.
That changed with years of work by DIT AgTech and its partners. After extensive trials, investment, and collaboration with producers, we’re proud to share a milestone that shifts the entire industry forward:
DIT AgTech’s methane reduction project is now officially registered under Verra’s Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), using methodology VM0041.
This achievement makes DIT AgTech the first company in Australia to register such a project, and the first globally to do so, under this methodology, using a water-based delivery system for methane-reducing feed additives.
Why Verra Certification Matters
Carbon credits come in many forms, but not all are created equal. Verra is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading standard setter for climate action. When a project is Verra-registered, it means emission reductions from Verra-registered projects are independently audited and verified and credits generated are globally recognised and tradable on international carbon markets.
The methodology used for this project (VM0041) is tailored specifically for livestock methane reduction. This ensures that reductions achieved from cattle feed additives aren’t just good intentions — they are real, measurable, and bankable climate outcomes. For an industry often under scrutiny, this level of credibility is a breakthrough.
The Science and Technology Behind the Breakthrough
At the heart of the project is uDOSE™, DIT AgTech’s patented water-based delivery system. Farmers add uPRO BLUE, a methane-reducing feed additive, directly into livestock drinking water . This guarantees consistent dosing across entire herds, even in Australia’s vast and remote grazing systems.
